Eastwood Clinics In-Service - Integrating Mindfulness into Therapeutic Practice

Presenter: Chris Nixon, LMSW, ICAADC

Once learned, some of the core principles of Mindfulness such as being non-judgmental, accepting and present, help to increase capacity for cultural sensitivity, as well as help to alleviate “burnout” within the profession of social work. Objectives for this course are to use Mindfulness in practice as a way of improving treatment outcomes; for clinicians to practice Mindfulness in their daily lives to be better aware and present thus strengthening the therapeutic relationship; to learn the science of Mindfulness.

  • All in-service programs are three contact hours, unless otherwise identified. Contact hours will be granted only for participants who attend the entire program. Certificates of completion will be distributed  upon completion of the course by mail.

Eastwood Clinics In-Service - Fundamentals in Ethics for the Behavioral Health Professional

This course will provide an overview of the history and evolution of social work and other behavioral health and addiction ethics as well as a biomedical ethics and ethics theories. Eastwood Clinics In-Service - Culture & Treatment

 Presenters: Craig McLean, LMSW, ACSW, CFAE, Betty Wilborn, LMSW and Jihan Daman, LMSW

This course will address the broad cultural counseling and other treatment aspects of various world cultures, including Asian (India, Hmong), Middle Eastern (Arab, Chaldean, Lebanese), African and European. The information is not a recipe but a starting point to ask respectful questions and not to make assumptions, in order to provide individualized treatment. The balance of practitioner self knowledge and general cultural knowledge is essential to cultural competence. The presenters will share stories that illustrate the complexities of integrating culture into therapeutic competencies.

    Eastwood Clinics In-Service - Therapeutic Approaches to Pain Management

    Presenters: Tammy Domroese PhD, LLP, ICAADC and Dennis Muzzi, LMSW, ICAADC

    To increase understanding of neurobiology; To be able to identify how various parts and functions of the central nervous system are affected by addiction, abuse, disease, illness, pain and opioid pain treatment. These aspects are: hormonal, neurotransmitter, limbic system, frontal cortex, and other neural pathways. To understand the components of the presenters’ pain management program, including the alternative approaches used and referred to, as well as beginning anecdotal data about effectiveness. To learn some of the clients own solutions to their enduring pain challenges. To learn more about how chronic pain affects the lives of people, including how biases within the health care system stigmatize people. This will be drawn from anecdotal evidence from clients in the pain program. To understand how brain functioning is related to withdrawal, recovery and other substance abuse treatment considerations. To have an understanding of the presenters’ developing, integrative model of substance abuse treatment. To increase knowledge of general pain management concepts and to be able to assess when such dynamics are primary in a case and how this changes the recommended approach

    The course will address how to you can use the various practices of Mindfulness, including mindfulness meditation to achieve your ideal weight in a healthy and joyful way!

    1. You will learn mindful ways to shop, cook and eat.
    2. The benefits of mindful meditation and journaling to promote a deeper understanding of your relationship with food.
    3. Understand and manage food cravings, reasons for emotional eating and the difference between nurturance and nourishment.
