Visitor Guidelines
In response to the H1N1 situation in Michigan and the known increased vulnerability of infants, children and pregnant women, effective December 3, 2009 the 5 East, 5 West, Pediatrics,PICU, SCN, NICU and the Birthing Center at St. John Hospital and Medical Center began the following visitor restrictions.
Many other area hospitals have adopted very similar guidelines to protect this population of patients.
- Visitation will be restricted to two consistent visitors that are not displaying symptoms of the flu.
- No children under the age of 14 (this includes siblings) will be allowed to visit.
- All visitors should follow isolation precaution guidelines as directed by Nursing Staff.
- We will request that no one visits who is ill.
- If someone in their family has been ill within the last 7 days ( fever 100.5 or above, cough, sore throat) visitors will be asked to request a mask.
- If someone has been ill, and is 7 days out from the onset of symptoms, and has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of an anti-pyretic, they will be allowed to visit.
We anticipate these guidelines to be in place until after the flu season, but we will periodically review and update as necessary.
