Palliative Care

Palliative care is a medical specialty focusing on the care of patients with chronic or advanced illness with equal attention to emotional and spiritual well-being.

The goal of palliative care is to ease pain and suffering to help patients and their families achieve the highest quality of life. Palliative care can be provided at any time during an illness and can be provided at the same time as treatment that is meant to cure the patient.

Care continues to be provided by the patients attending doctor with the addition of the palliative care team. The palliative care team consists of:

  • Advanced practice nurses
  • Social workers
  • Spiritual care providers
  • Pharmacists
  • Nutritionists
  • Physical and occupational therapists
  • Music and massage therapists

Palliative care may be right for you if you suffer from pain or other symptoms due to an advanced or chronic illness such as:
