Robotic Minimally Invasive Surgery at Providence Hospital

Providence-Vattikuti Women’s Robotic Surgery InstituteA $1 million donation from the Vattikuti Foundation has enabled Providence Hospital to acquire a new da Vinci® Si Surgical System and create the Providence-Vattikuti Women’s Robotic Surgery Institute.

This new partnership with Vattikuti allows Providence to build on its reputation as a leader in gynecological robotic surgery because the Providence-Vattikuti Women’s Robotic Surgery Institute will become an integral part of the worldwide Vattikuti Foundation’s Robotic Surgery Institute. The institute is a group of centers of excellence dedicated to state-of-the-art robotic surgery and innovation through collaboration with its global network of multispecialty institutes, which share best practices.

Since acquiring the hospital’s first da Vinci system in 2007, Providence has been the regional market leader in gynecologic robotic procedures. Use of this technology is becoming the standard of care for patients needing gynecologic surgery, resulting in enhanced patient outcomes. The number of surgeries at Providence has grown each year; the new robotic equipment will help Providence meet the ongoing increase in demand.

“Acquiring the new da Vinci and becoming part of the Vattikuti Foundation’s Robotic Surgery Institute sets Providence Hospital and St. John Providence Health apart from any health system in the region for gynecological robotic surgery,” says Dr. Lakshmi Gavini, MD, Providence Chief of Gynecology, Gynecological Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery. “We are extremely grateful to the Vattikuti Foundation for its generosity and the opportunity to become a partner in this elite group of robotic surgery centers.

“We have a bold vision for significantly growing robotic surgery at Providence Hospital, Southfield and expanding it to Providence Park Hospital, Novi. Our partnership with the Vattikuti Foundation is the first step toward making this a reality,” Dr. Gavini adds.
