Dedicated to helping women take control of their health

As a woman, mom, gold medal gymnast and cancer survivor, Shannon Miller knows how important it is to make your health a priority. Simple things — such as understanding your health and getting yearly check-ups and cancer screenings — can make a big difference in your health. After retiring from gymnastics competition, Shannon devoted herself to helping women take control of their health.

But it wasn’t being a gold medal athlete that made Shannon an advocate for women’s health — it was her cancer diagnosis. In 2011, Shannon’s doctor noticed something was wrong. “I was suddenly in surgery at Ascension. And it was when I woke up from that surgery to have the mass removed that I found out that it was a rare form of ovarian cancer, but they had caught it early.” Shannon says that while a cancer diagnosis is never easy, she always knew she had support and great care along the way from her care team.

Now, Shannon urges women to put their health at the top of their to-do list. If she would have delayed her routine screening, her cancer may not have been found as early. That’s why yearly visits, preventive care and screenings are so important.

And as a wife and mother, she makes sure her husband and children — all born at Ascension St. Vincent’s in Jacksonville, Florida — get the care they need too. From pediatric care to primary care, specialty care, and ER care for adults and children, you and your family are connected to the care you need.
