The journey through cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery can feel like a roller coaster of challenges and emotions. One of the main goals of the Van Elslander Cancer Center is to provide supportive counseling for cancer patients and their families.
What our oncology social worker does
- Promotes a trusting and compassionate relationship for those touched by a cancer diagnosis.
- Encourages and supports positive adaptive changes.
- Provides crisis intervention and emotional support.
- Helps promote open communication and interaction for the individual and their family.
- Teaches patients to identify, increase and apply their problem-solving skills.
- Assists patients and families in using the Van Elslander Cancer Center.
- Helps direct patients and families to other valuable information and resources available in the area.
- Offers bereavement support to families suffering a loss.
