Gun Safety and Injury Prevention
How many times have you turned on a television or picked up newspaper to learn of an accidental shooting in a home? One time is to many; it is a tragedy that can and must be eliminated from media headlines. The best way to ensure your families safety is to never have a gun in the home. However, for those who acknowledge the danger of owning a gun but still do, responsibility for family safety is then yours. Please consider the following safety tips and lets put a stop to accidental gun injury /deaths in the home.
Gun Safety
-
Never leave a gun unattended.
- Lock up guns, unloaded.
- Lock up ammunition separate from the gun.
- Keep keys for locked gun/ammunition hidden or with you at all times.
- Fit all guns with trigger locks.
- Talk to your children about gun safety.
- Treat BB guns with the same care; they also have the ability to cause injury/death.
- Teach children never to touch a gun. It is their natural curiosity that will draw them to a gun. Teach them to notify an adult if they find one whether they believe it is real or a toy.
Be aware of guns in the homes where your children play. Accomplish this by talking directly and openly to responsible parties.
