Since approximately 65 percent of people with diabetes are at increased risk for complications such as heart attack and stroke, the Joslin Diabetes Center is a natural complement to the Cardiology Clinics at Providence.
Joslin Diabetes Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is the national leader in multidisciplinary care and research related to diabetes and its complications. Providence’s affiliation with Joslin enables us to offer our patients the highest level of diabetes care.
The specialized services available at the Joslin Diabetes Center include:
- Multidisciplinary approach to care and education
- Physician consultation
- Group and individual diabetes and nutrition classes
- Medical management, including insulin starts
- Continuous glucose monitoring
- Insulin pump therapy
- Gestational diabetes education
- Access to specialist referral and follow up care
The Joslin Diabetes Center at Providence Hospital is under the direction of Kirit Tolia, MD, who is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes and internal medicine and is chief of endocrinology at Providence. After receiving his medical degree from the Calcutta Medical College in India, Dr. Tolia completed residencies there and at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit.
Also part of the Joslin team are Suchitra Zambare, MD, and Linda Aman, MSN, APRN-BC. Dr. Zambare is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes and internal medicine. She received her medical degree from Gandhi Medical College in India, completing residencies there and at Wayne State University, Detroit, where she also completed her fellowship training.
Ms. Aman is an experienced nurse practitioner, certified in adult primary care.
