Bed Size and Affiliation
St. John River District Hospital is a 68-bed non-profit acute care facility located in East China Township, Michigan, just south of the City of St. Clair. St. John River District Hospital is fully owned and operated by St. John Providence Health System, of metro Detroit.
Celebrating 40 Years
The community based hospital opened in 1965 to replace another local community hospital that was undersized and obsolete. The hospital is built on a site donated by Detroit Edison. The hospital has long enjoyed community support and many organizations and individuals provided financial support for the hospital’s construction and equipment. The hospital has gone through approximately seven major renovation programs, including the reconstruction of the Maternal/Child Health, Emergency Department and surgical services. Recently, the hospital has added many new diagnostic services including a sleep studies center and vascular lab.
The hospital offers a wide range of services including general medical/surgical care, intensive/cardiac care unit, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, in and out-patient surgery, orthopedics, sleep study center, urinary incontinence center, ophthalmology, oncology, cardiology, pulmonary rehab, radiology, laboratory, vascular diagnostics and intervention, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, a 24-hour Emergency Department and five outpatient centers specializing in primary and specialty care services, with our newest specialty center in the southern portion of our service area at 26 Mile Rd and County Line Rd.
In cooperative ventures with two Port Huron hospitals, St. John River District provides emergency medical (ambulance and paramedic) services through TRI Hospital EMS and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) diagnostic services, TRI Hospital MRI.
