JCAHO: Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
Providence Hospital and Medical Centers is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The Joint Commission develops state-of-the-art, professionally based standards for health care and evaluates the compliance of health care organizations against these standards.
The Joint Commission develops its standards in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts, purchasers and consumers. If an organization does the right things and does them well, it's likely that, on the whole, patients will experience good outcomes.
JCAHO accreditation is recognized nationally as a symbol of quality. It indicates that an organization meets certain performance standards for activities that affect the quality of patient care. To maintain accreditation, an organization must undergo an on-site inspection by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years.
