Medical Student Electives - Family Medicine I

Candidates: Third and fourth year students of approved allopathic and osteopathic medical schools

Description:
This outpatient family medicine rotation is in an urban/suburban residency teaching office with 30,000 annual patient visits. Students are exposed to patients with a wide range of issues, including prenatal care, well child visits, adult physicals and chronic disease management. There is a community medicine focus with care provided to patients with common urban barriers to health care. Students are paired wtih family medicine faculty and senior residents. Students evaluate patients independently, give oral presentations and actively participate in patient management and education. Students also participate in procedure clinics, nursing home visits and an extensive resident conference schedule. Exposure to the Family Medicine Inpatient Service and Family Centered Birthing can be arranged.
Schedule: Weekdays only, no call
