Cardiovascular Services – Providence Hospital is a recognized national leader in heart care. We have the distinction of being named a Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital by Thomson (formerly Solucient). In fact, we are the only teaching hospital in Michigan and one of only three in the nation to have achieved this prestigious designation for nine consecutive years. In addition, Providence Hospital was selection as a Thomson Reuters Everest Award winner. The award honors an elite and special group of the national award winners who have reached the highest level of accomplishment on the national Balanced Scorecard and have the fastest rates of long-term improvement. Providence also has been designated a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Cardiac Center of Excellence since 1996. Providence is a member of the St. John Health Cardiovascular Network, the leading provider of heart care in Michigan.
Neurosciences – The Neurosciences Institute at Providence Hospital in Southield is one of the nation’s leading neurological, neuro-otological, neurosurgical, physical medicine and pain control teams. Our physicians specialize in the treatment of hundreds of conditions and impairments relating to the brain, spine, muscles, nerves, balance, hearing, speech and pain management. Our team provides the highest quality, dignified care for our patients. We also are active in medical research and education devoted to the understanding and treatment of neurological orders.
Oncology/Cancer Center – In a joint venture with the University of Michigan, the Providence Cancer Institute delivers groundbreaking clinical care while maintaining the convenience and personal touch of a community hospital. Through this clinical partnership, patients and medical professionals have access to valuable research, education, and second opinions for numerous types of cancer. In addition, the Providence Cancer Institute is accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
Orthopedics – Providence Hospital’s orthopaedics team improves lives. We’ve returned thousands of community residents to independent lives filled with activity and enjoyment. We’ve helped open their worlds to many exciting opportunities. Our orthopaedic surgeons and their team of professionals deal with a highly specialized area of medicine that involves the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries or diseases to all bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. We offer arthroscopic surgery, general surgery, hand surgery, hip arthroscopy, hip fracture, joint replacement, pediatric orthopaedics, pediatric spine surgery, shoulder surgery, spine surgery and sports medicine.
Surgical Services – A mere 25 years ago, patients who needed gallbladder surgery faced a five-day hospital stay, a large scar, risk of surgery complications and a long recuperation period. The same was true for most surgical procedures. Now, minimally invasive technology allows specially trained Providence Hospital surgeons to perform many operations through small incisions, using a tiny instrument (laparoscope). Laparoscopic surgery options include hernia repair, kidney transplant, colon resection, partial knee replacement and bariatric/weight loss surgery. As we age, the possible complications of traditional surgery may outweigh the potential benefits, so this leading-edge technology is particularly valuable. Within five years, fully 70 percent of all surgeries in the United States are expected to be minimally invasive.
Women’s/Pediatric Services – Women have special health care needs. Providence Hospital offers a full range of health care services and educational programs to meet those needs during adolescence, childbirth, midlife and senior years. We’ve brought more than 250,000 new lives into the world over our decades of service. We offer women a choice in their family-centered birth options and a choice between physicians and certified nurse-midwives. Our New Life Center Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) rooms offer a patient-centered setting backed by sophisticated technology. The New Life Center offers a variety of pain control options and “couplet care” is stressed. Our Alternative Birth Care (ABC) unit offers expectant mothers a low-risk birthing option in a homelike setting designed for a natural childbirth experience. It’s reassuring to know that should babies need special care, Providence offers a 15-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
