Sam H. Awada MD, ABFM, ABGM, FACGS, has been selected as the new Chief of Family Practice at St. John Macomb Hospital. He assumed his new position March 1. In his new position, Dr. Awada will be responsible for organizing, coordinating and representing the Department of Family Practice at Medical Executive Committee meetings. He will promote the department and recruit new family physicians to the medical staff. A Warren native, Dr. Awada serves the community from his Midwest Family Practice medical office on Twelve Mile Road in his hometown. He received his bachelor's degree in Biology from Wayne State University and his medical doctorate degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in the Bethesda Family Practice Residency Program in Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Awada is board-certified in both family medicine and geriatric medicine. Since joining St. John Macomb Hospital's medical staff in 2003, Dr. Awada has been an active member of the staff serving on numerous hospital committees including the medical executive committee, performance improvement council, medical records committee and the continuing medical education committee. In addition, Dr. Awada instructs medical students as a clinical professor of Family Medicine at Wayne State University. Dr. Awada maintains active memberships in numerous professional organizations and medical societies. He is a fellow of the American College of Geriatric Specialists, Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and Diplomate of the American Board of Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Awada is active with numerous medical societies, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Family Physicians, Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, Michigan State Medical Society and the Macomb County Medical Society. He is also the local voice of the American Medical Association local chapter of physicians. |
