SJPHS Offers Unique Breast Cancer Second Opinion Clinic

Contact: Brian Taylor, 586-753-0726.

If you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer, you’re faced with the need to make sudden, urgent decisions about your health. You also need to navigate the healthcare system, which can be overwhelming. Helping patients get comprehensive answers to all their questions, and a complete second opinion, can be easy as 1, 2, 3.

St. John Providence is nationally accredited with the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) which means that we ensure multidisciplinary, integrated and comprehensive services dedicated specifically to breast care. In short, you can trust us with this important healthcare decision.

In just one coordinated visit, you can meet with a multidisciplinary team of specialists and get all of your questions (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, nutrition, care coordination). While you are here, your case will be presented to our Tumor Board, which consists of over 20 cancer specialists. Then, you will be examined and get a recommended treatment plan. We’ll also be ready to answer all of your questions.

Our Second Opinion Clinic helps all patients, regardless of where they choose to receive treatment. The team is made up of specialized breast surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, dietitian, oncology social worker, financial counselor and others that all work together for the best of the patients. You get our best and brightest breast care specialists working together to give you a customized treatment plan.

Rather than making appointments and driving to multiple specialists, or making countless phone calls, we do everything needed to create your treatment plan in one three-hour visit.

There are just three steps to get started:

  1. Call our Cancer Care Coordinator for an appointment at 866-246-4673.
  2. Arrive at the Van Elslander Cancer Center, 19229 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods. Receive free valet parking at the main cancer center entrance.
  3. Bring these three things to your appointment: necessary referrals and all diagnostic test results (we’ll give you a list); your own questions; and a companion for support (two sets of ears are better than one!).

If you desire, we can schedule pre-admission testing and surgery immediately following your appointment.

St. John Providence Health Breast Care is a leader in cancer care in Southeastern Michigan. SJPHS offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient cancer care services from research and diagnosis to treatment, including surgery, radiation and medical oncology, pain management, education and support groups.
