Providence Hospital has enrolled the first patient in Michigan in a national clinical trial of a procedure for treatment-resistant hypertension. The trial, known as SYMPLICITY HTN-3, is a randomized controlled trial designed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of renal denervation with Medtronic’s Symplicity Renal Denervation System.

A Detroit Free Press story highlighted Providence Hospital for enrolling the first patient in the state and only the seventh in the U.S. into a landmark clinical trial of a procedure for treatment-resistant hypertension. The trial, known as SYMPLICITY HTN-3, is a randomized controlled trial designed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of renal denervation in patients with treatment-resistant hypertension. The story featured Dr. Shukri David, and the co-investigator of the study, Dr. Susan Steigerwalt, director of the Resistant Hypertension Laboratory at Providence.
