Dizziness, Balance and Falls Clinic

Since opening in 2010, the Dizziness, Balance and Falls Clinic of St. John Providence Health System has treated and improved the quality of life for many patients. The clinic experts are internationally recognized for the diagnosis and management of dizziness and balance disorders.

One of only a few such clinics in the country, our Clinic provides the latest diagnostic testing, treatment and therapy to restore quality of life. We combine medical doctors, audiologists and physical therapists in an outpatient setting for a multidisciplinary approach to the individual patient’s condition. We use state-of-the-art diagnostic balance labs to more accurately diagnose our patients, enabling us to use this data for effective treatment protocols in our rehabilitation programs.

The Clinic has unique rehabilitation equipment to help in the rehabilitation process. One of the top 10 most misdiagnosed conditions is positional vertigo, and this affects 35 percent of adults at some point in their life. St. John Providence is proud to offer a high-tech treatment—the Epley Omniax® System— a multi-axial (360-degree) patient-positioning device and infrared video goggles. It allows 3D, real-time monitoring and measurement of the patient’s eye movements. Based on the feedback, the doctor can physically position the patient—sometimes upside down or sideways—to treat the condition and alleviate the dizziness. We also have a Balance Assessment Computerized Dynamic Posturography machine that is a diagnostic and treatment device that has revolutionized management of patients with dizziness, balance and movement disorders. This is very helpful in preventing falls in the at risk patient group.

Janet’s Dizziness, Balance and Falls Clinic Experience

“I was very dizzy. I had a very bad headache, and I was photophobic, so it was really hard to keep my eyes open without using sunglasses.”
