  • Difficulty walking, moving in bed or from one place to another

  • Difficulty understanding, talking, reading or writing language
  • Problems remembering information
  • Weakness or limited motion in arms, legs or trunk
What to Expect

As a patient, you can expect that you and your family will be very active members of the care team. Your participation is needed and strongly encouraged in helping plan your care both in the hospital and after you leave. You will be encouraged to be as independent as possible by doing things for yourself. Your family members need to understand that you need practice to improve your skills. They must let you do things for yourself, and provide only necessary assistance after they've been trained by staff.

Our skilled staff provide interdiscipinary care that includes rehabilitation physicians, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, audiology, therapeutic recreation, medical social work and rehabilitation nursing. These services benefit a wide range of patients with illness or injury that has resulted in trauma, post surgical procedures, deconditioning, degenerative conditions, neurological conditions and other life changing illness or injuries. Specialized services include a traumatic brain injury program, pet therapy and several support groups for patients and their caregivers.

Supportive Services

What do patients have to say?

"Although my surgery for total hip replacement was performed at another hospital, I chose St. John Macomb-Oakland, Macomb Center, for rehab because of a very positive experience in November of 2001 with my first total hip replacement. Without reservation, I would strongly recommend St. John Macomb-Oakland, Macomb Center, for this service to anyone. The rehab unit at this hospital does an outstanding service to the community. Likewise, the work of physical and occupational therapists employed in this unit is of the highest quality."
