Amputee Training Program
The staff of the Amputee Training Program at Providence Hospital Southfield is dedicated to providing a high level of service to individuals who have undergone amputations. We provide care to people of all ages and ability levels, from new amputees to advanced level/sports training. Comprehensive evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation programs are tailored specifically to focus on all aspects of the individual's recovery.
Experienced physical therapists provide the treatments, working together utilizing a team approach including the patient, physician, prosthetist and family members. A treatment plan is developed to facilitate functional recovery for return to daily, leisure and work activities.
Program emphasis on:
- Lower extremity, upper extremity and core strengthening
- Education on prosthetic fit and care of the limb
- Functional mobility including transfers, gait traing, balance training
- High level activities including running, jumping, sports training
