Infant Massage
Promote nurturing touch and communication with your baby through Infant Massage, a three-session class that uses hands-on instruction. Enhance the parent-infant relationship while fostering communication of love, safety, and security in an atmosphere while providing support and social networking.
This class is for infants six months or younger only.
Please bring a mat or blanket to set up on the classroom floor, extra diapers, two baby blankets (one for baby to lie on and one for warmth), an infant change of clothes, small container of natural vegetable oil (canola or safflower), and optional items (pillow, pacifier, drink for mom and baby).

Alternative Birth Care Unit - Southfield
If you are seeking a childbirth experience in a unique and private setting, consider the Alternative Birth Care Unit at Providence Hospital, located across from Labor and Delivery. We offer low risk women individualized labor support, jacuzzi tubs and showers, queen size beds for mom and her partner, baby care right in the room, and a home visit after discharge. For information about orientation for the unit, or to sign up for a 4-week childbirth class, for Alternative Birthing Unit patients call (248) 849-3919. Refresher classes are also offered.
A terrific one-evening session, with one of our own St. John pediatricians as the featured speaker. The class explores life with your newborn from initial care to six months of age. Topics will include newborn characteristics, immunizations, safety practices and calming techniques. Sure to boost confidence and skills for new parents! Call for dates and times.

Birthing Unit Tour
Tour of birthing center, including labor, delivery and post-partum. One group Birthing Unit tour is offered each month. Individual Birthing tours are available on an appointment basis. Call 1-866-501-DOCS.
Discuss the complete labor process from stages 1 through 3; including: how to know when you’re in labor, when to come to the hospital, how long your stay will be in the hospital and what to expect when you go home.

Coping with Labor
This class will give you and your labor partner the information you need to make pain management decisions including medication and epidurals as well as techniques for breathing, relaxation, and massage. Bring a blanket, mat and two pillows to class.

Saint Vincent and Sarah Fisher Outreach Services for Pregnant & Parenting Teens
Special programs aimed at pregnant and parenting teens. Includes: childbirth classes, parenting classes, life skills for the 21st century, young fatherhood program and other support services.
