What do they do?

Surgical techs or operation room technicians, assist in preparing operating rooms for surgery with surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes and sterile solutions. They also assist doctors by handing them needed instruments during surgery and for counting sponges and needles before and after the operation.

Educational Requirements
|
|
Many vocational and community colleges offer programs in operating room technology, some leading to an associate's degree. Programs are usually 2 years in length. After training, students must pass an examination by the Association of Surgical Technologists to become certified.
