Career Profiles: Respiratory Therapist

What do they do?

A respiratory therapist assesses and treats patients with breathing problems.  They also perform procedures to determine lung and heart function and administer oxygen as well as breathing treatments.

Where do they work?

Hospitals, nursing facilities, home care, physician offices and clinics.

Educational Requirements

Training programs range from 2-4 years (associate or bachelor's degree) and include certification and state licensure.
