What do they do?

A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a Registered Nurse trained to administer anesthesia. They perform physical assessments for preoperative patients and oversee recovery from anesthesia.

Hospitals, surgical centers and some private practices.

Educational Requirements
|
| CRNA's must first complete a bachelor's degree in Nursing and obtain RN licensure. After two years of nursing experience in the critical care environment, the nurse must enroll in a 2 to 3 year accredited program for anesthesia education and pass the national certification exam. Most CRNA programs result in a master's degree in nursing anesthesia. |
