Providence Hospital School of Radiologic Technology

The Providence Hospital School of Radiologic Technology prepares the student for examination and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The 24-month course includes both classroom study and competency-based clinical education.  The 40-hour school week consists of a daily three-hour class covering topics such as radiologic physics, anatomy and physiology, standard radiographic positions, techniques and departmental procedures.  The remainder of each eight-hour day is devoted to performing clinical duties under the supervision of a registered radiologic technologist.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide each student with an education that will enhance their minds.  Through constant goal setting and achievement, the students are given the opportunity to challenge themselves towards excellence in patient care within the radiological sciences.

Program Goals

  • To produce didactically competent entry level technologists
  • To produce clinically competent entry level technologists
  • To produce graduates who demonstrate critical thinking skills
  • To produce graduates who are able to communicate with all persons in the workplace
  • To produce graduates who are able to demonstrate their professionalism so they will be considered employable and retainable entry level technologists

Admission

Up to 12 students per year; Criterion for acceptance is based on a combined score for both academics and interview.

Candidate Qualifications

Individuals eighteen (18) and over are eligible for enrollment. An interview is required, during which candidates are evaluated on:

  • Personal impression
  • Customer service/Patient care experience
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Educational background

Educational requirements include minimum of an Associate degree. (Completion by August of the application year) The degree can be in any area of study, but must include:

  • English (Composition or Communication)
  • Algebra (Intermediate level or above)
  • Introduction to computers
  • Medical terminology
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Behavioral science
  • Intro to Radiography (Or documentation of 10 or more hours of job shadowing)

Courses less than 7 years old are preferred (Not required); grade of “C” or higher preferred.

Application

Applicants are to submit the following, to the Radiolography Program by February 1, along with their application for consideration:

  • Three (3) current letters of professional reference.
  • Official High School transcripts.
  • Official College transcripts.
  • A $40 Application fee. (Check or money order payable to Providence Hospital)

Tuition

Cost for the program is $5000 for tuition, required texts not included.

Enrollment

Accreditation

Providence Hospital School of Radiologic Technology is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in the Radiological Sciences.  For further information on standards for education in the Radiological sciences, please visit their web site at: www.jrcert.org, or phone: (312) 704-5300.

Our program is required by the Joint Review Commission on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) to publish data on program completion rate, first time pass rate on the National Registry, and job placement rate. CT & MRI Training

Providence Hospital also has CT & MRI training available to Registered Radiographers. We offer a 6 month CT program and a 9 month MRI program. Applicants must be a Registered Radiographer to apply.
